How To Optimize LinkedIn As A Product Designer To Get Jobs.

How-To-Optimize-LinkedIn

How to optimize LinkedIn? LinkedIn optimization for job hunting and gig hunting is a strategic process with no particular hack. However, I have carefully curated the best LinkedIn optimization and growth strategies for product designers globally.

As a designer or as with any profession, making a living is as important as breathing oxygen. Right?

But my guess is just as good as yours… You want more! More than the average rat race salary or wage every random designer out there earns. Right?

Yes! You deserve more (if you’ve truly put in the work to be a great designer). However, life doesn’t answer to wishes and desires. life responds to cause and action.

Hence, the question “What’s the causal action for a great pay reaction?”. I guess LinkedIn optimisation and growth strategy is one of the causal effects.

Just before you get locked into this journey, I am going to give you a little introduction about myself.

I am Inegben Stanley. founder of Inegben (Oh. you’re already here). I currently lead product management for Smartsafe UK, the parent company of Imo Varsity and SmartLearning UK. I am an experienced product manager with a little over 2 years to 3 years of overseeing multiple products across EdTech, HealthTech, GolfTech, FinTech, Consulting, CleanTech, and Conversational AI. I am also a WordPress designer with over 7 years of experience building with WordPress.

In 2024, I made 6-7 figures on LinkedIn teaching foreign and local clients how to use LinkedIn to land 6-7 figures in remote roles and I spoke on TV about LinkedIn!. My biggest success was with a student who landed a £180,000 (Pounds) role within a week of our sessions.

So, I believe I can teach you a thing or two about LinkedIn and how to use it to get remote high-paying jobs and gigs. Without doing those shady hacks you read online or watch on YouTube.

Consequently, if my process is not a “Hack”, then, you should know that it will require extreme hard work, dedication, and consistency for 3-6 months! Yes… Months. not days. My process is a system and not a hack.

With that being said, let’s get into it. shall we?

Why LinkedIn Matters for Product Designers

How To Optimize LinkedIn

Today and globally, the job market has become a battle ground for job seeking soldiers, LinkedIn isn’t just a digital resume like some people assume, it’s a powerful platform where recruiters, hiring managers, and potential clients scout for top product designers.

The key to standing out? Building E-A-T (Expertise, Authority, and Trust) while strengthening your KLT (Know, Like, and Trust) factor. Yes! But not in the way you’re familiar with…

But how do you achieve this? By leveraging strategic content creation, keyword optimization, and engagement techniques, you can position yourself as a go-to design expert while attracting job opportunities and freelance gigs.

The only thing here is that there’s actually real work in sourcing for business-relevant keywords, building case studies that will help you drive business engagement and not your regular vanity metrics, and building a consistently positive brand.

First, let’s do the basics… so we don’t skip primary optimization actions. IYKYK

Step 1: Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile for Search & Visibility

1. Use SEO-Optimized Keywords in Your Headline & Summary

Your LinkedIn headline should clearly state your role while including SEO-rich keywords that recruiters search for.

Example: “Product Designer | SaaS UX Specialist | Solving Design Ambiguity for High-Converting Products”

In your About section, go beyond just listing skills. Tell your unique value proposition (UVP); this means “what problems you solve and who you help”.

Example:

“I help SaaS businesses reduce churn and improve conversions by creating intuitive, user-friendly interfaces. Passionate about solving design ambiguity, I specialize in UX strategy, UI prototyping, and usability testing.”

SEO Tip: Include keywords like UX/UI design, SaaS product design, design thinking, usability testing, user research, and conversion optimization naturally within your summary.

2. Make Your Experience Section Action-Oriented

Instead of just listing job titles, use bullet points to highlight key achievements and measurable results.

Example:

  • Redesigned a fintech app’s onboarding flow, reducing user drop-off by 35% in 3 months.
  • Conducted A/B testing for a SaaS dashboard, increasing user engagement by 20%.
  • Developed a design system that improved UI consistency across 10+ enterprise apps.

💡 Pro Tip: Recruiters search for specific results, so quantify your impact whenever possible.

3. Enhance Your Profile with Rich Media & Portfolio Links

Upload work samples, case studies, and interactive prototypes to your Featured section to showcase your design expertise visually.

What to Include:

  • UX/UI redesign projects
  • Case studies on usability improvements
  • Before & after screenshots of design enhancements

💡 Pro Tip: Use tools like Dribbble, Behance, and personal websites to host an expanded portfolio.

Now, let’s start delving into the dirty process that involves real work to get your profile up and running in order to position yourself in the face of recruiters, business owners, and founders who might need or hire you or your service.

Step 2: Post LinkedIn SEO-Optimized Design Content to Build Authority

The best way to grow your E-A-T and KLT is by posting valuable content consistently. Here’s how:

1. Follow the “Design Content Cluster” Strategy

A content cluster is a group of interconnected posts addressing a specific design pain point. This method boosts your LinkedIn search visibility while reinforcing your expertise.

Example Content Cluster for a SaaS Designer:

ProblemKeywordCase StudyRedesign Report
High Churn Due to Confusing OnboardingOnboarding ProblemsFotor: Personalized OnboardingNew Onboarding Flow
Low Conversion on Pricing PagesSaaS Pricing Page UXStripe’s UX EvolutionPricing Redesign Proposal
Poor Feature AdoptionFeature Discovery UXTrello’s Feature RolloutImproved Feature Visibility

💡 How to Use This:

  • Step 1: Research common design problems in SaaS & tech.
  • Step 2: Find a real company facing the issue.
  • Step 3: Analyze their challenges & redesign a solution.
  • Step 4: Post a case study tagging the company & similar businesses.

Example Post: Title: “Why 70% of Users Drop Off in Onboarding (And How to Fix It)”

Post Structure:

  • Start with an engaging hook (a bold stat or real issue).
  • Explain the company’s problem with screenshots.
  • Show your redesigned solution.
  • End with a CTA: “What do you think? Would this improve onboarding?”

Bonus Tip: Tag hiring managers, product leads, and UX teams from the company to increase visibility!

Here’s a detailed video where I taught my design students how to do this

2. Engage with Industry Leaders & Recruiters

LinkedIn rewards engagement. Instead of just posting, interact with posts from design leaders, hiring managers, and SaaS founders.

Engagement Strategy:

  • Comment with insights on posts from top UX/product design professionals.
  • Repost job listings with advice for applicants.
  • Message recruiters with a link to your portfolio & relevant case studies.

💡 Pro Tip: Use LinkedIn’s search bar to find “Hiring Product Designer” posts and introduce yourself!

Before we round up, below is another very important thing you need to get ready to do.

Step 3: Network & Join High-Value LinkedIn Groups

Being part of active LinkedIn groups connects you with recruiters, fellow designers, and hiring companies.

Top LinkedIn Groups for Product Designers:

  • UX/UI Design & Research Community
  • SaaS Product Design Network
  • Designers Guild: Hiring & Freelancing

Action Plan:

  • Share your case studies in relevant groups.
  • Engage in design challenges & portfolio reviews.
  • Offer insights on trending UX discussions.

Pro Tip: Hosting LinkedIn audio or video events on design problem-solving can skyrocket your visibility!

Next step is…

Step 4: Use LinkedIn SEO to Rank for Recruiter Searches

Optimizing your profile for LinkedIn’s search algorithm increases your chances of being discovered by recruiters.

SEO Checklist:

  • Use industry-specific keywords in your headline & experience.
  • Add skills like Figma, UX Research, UI Prototyping, A/B Testing.
  • Request recommendations from colleagues & past clients.
  • Keep your profile activity high by posting weekly.

PS: Recruiters search for designers by keywords, so the more optimized your profile, the higher you rank!

And there you have it! if you really watched that video tutorial of mine, by now you already know it’s a lot of work than this summary blog post.
